DigiEcoQuarry’s family met in Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria) for two days of innovation, digitalisation, mining, and camaraderie. We began by catching up on the current state of the project, reviewing both the progress made and the challenges encountered in recent phases. It was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and recognize each team member’s contributions.
Having the entire project team together in person is a rare and invaluable chance to exchange ideas, particularly given the highly interconnected nature of digitalisation efforts. With a few months of development still ahead, there’s confidence that significant enhancements will be integrated into the systems.
“A portion of the meeting- explains Lorena Viladés, one of the coordinators of the project- was also dedicated to planning for the project’s closing phase. We established a roadmap for the remaining tasks, ensuring that all details are in place for a smooth and successful conclusion”.
In the words of César Luaces, general director at ANEFA and leader of the project: “As coordinator, I am very satisfied that, despite the magnitude of the challenges we have had to face—some foreseen and others not—the team of highly specialized professionals that make up the Consortium has been able to face them and look for solutions. Sincerely, I could not feel prouder of our team and their involvement in the project”.
Yet, as Paulo Romero, one of the project coordinators highlights: “Having the opportunity to work hands-on with the applications that have been shaped over these past years is a gratifying experience for everyone involved. There’s a profound satisfaction in witnessing the tangible results of years of rigorous development and hard work”.
The solutions and most of the project’s multiple deliverables are now operational, as expected in its last year of implementation. There are still tests and adjustments to be made and elements to be optimized, but overall, the team is working to achieve the objectives planned and proposed to the European Commission. As Luaces also points out: “Digitizing an industry in a primary sector such as ours requires an enormous technological and cultural effort. But DEQ is a big step in that direction”.
After more than three years of dedicated work, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the outcomes already being implemented across our pilot sites. The insights gained from viewing the real-world applications and dashboards across various pilot systems have been especially inspiring, underscoring the progress made so far.
